TANGO BALI CLUB IN BUENOS AIRES

The first week saw us busy with the CITA Congress with a full twenty-two and half hours of lessons everyday for six days. Some were enrolled in the beginner's/intermediate level others in the advance. It was nice to see everyone in high spirit each day of the congress as they line-up to check on their schedule or sometimes change their lesson which reminds us of our college days when we panic each school-opening day.

Nancy, Made, Peter, Galina, Ellen, Mark and Ricky all stayed at the beautiful Casa Monserat.
The house owned by Patricia, is an old Art Deco  style house beautifully refurbished with modern touches located in the heart of the city

Franziska and Annie both stayed at San Telmo in a tango house owned by Frabricio.

While Helga and myself stayed in an apartment in Corrientes. Helga's brother Harry was supposed to join us but he unfortunately missed his flight and had to cancel his trip even he was already signed up for the congress.

We had the opportunity to mingle with the Tango Dubai group headed by Paul Bradley. Tina from Japan was also there. And the biggest surprise was Ogie Mendoza who came right at the opening of the congress.

The opening night at Palacio San Miguel where a milonga was held was a memorable one for it was the first time that the whole group were in one important occassion. Tangueros from all over the world were present to experience tango in it's birthplace.

The second and third day saw us watching the Master's show at Teatro Astral with all the participating teachers showcasing their craft. It was a magical night as we  were treated to the many different styles each couple can present to the audience. Thunderous applause will always greet performers who get the crowd's approval and this is what added to the evening's energy .

On the fifth day Patricia and her Dad tendered a barbecue dinner at Casa Monserat. This is the typical asado or parillada when this famous Argentinean beef is grilled and eaten with salads or potatoes which is a usual flair in Argentina. Everyone had a great time savoring this delicious Argentinean beef in between sips of red wine from Mendoza, the wine -producing city of the country.

The next day it was our very own Made's turn to showcase her culinary skill and treated us all to a hearty dinner of Indonesian cuisine. It was a smash hit considering that all of us have been dying to savour Asain cuisine after almost a week of pizzas, asados, emapanadas et.al.

And after the dinner, five taxis appeared out of the blues and suddenly tango was the order of the evening till 2:oo a.m. Dance till we all dropped. But it was a wonderful evening worth remembering.

Towards the last day of the congress, everyone was feeling exhausted with the hours and hours of lessons lined-up the whole week. The last milonga  to be held at Palacio San Miguel was to take place and all participants are getting ready for the farewell milonga. As usual the Tango Bali group came in full force and we partied till the wee hours of the morning reminiscing the busy week we all had and the wonderfull lessons we learned from our choice teachers in the congress.

We are planning to do this again next year as the experience made us closer together and taught us new things to improve on our tango.

We shall share this experience with our friends in the Tango Bali Club who did not make it for this year's CITA Congress.

LET'S KEEP TANGO-ING!   Stefani
